The project builds upon and advances knowledge on multimodal apartments developed 2013 (http://multimod.hyperbody.nl/index.php/Main_Page) in collaboration with Blauwhoed, a leading Dutch real estate developer based in Rotterdam. The brief of the design studio is based on the observation that technical installations and devices are dynamic in nature and have typically a much shorter life compared to the static built environment. When we extrapolate this trend to the near future, built structures might be seen as 50% static and 50% dynamic (programmable). The task is to design a podium/stage that caters to different kind of uses during the 3 days symposium GSM 3 organised by Hyperbody. Uses will range from interactive individual lectures and moderated group discussions to events and receptions.

MSc 2 Context ----
Hyperbody MSc 2 studio will focus on the development of 1:1 prototype to be exhibited and used at the GSM 3 Symposium. Students will work within the paradigm of Non-standard and Interactive Architecture. In this context, industrial NC and robotic fabrication of customised building components is the driver for the radical change from Modernist to parametric Super-/Non-standard Architecture, which is inclusive and generic by nature. Design including architectural design becomes a participatory and multiplayer game, where the designer sets rules that unfold and are played by the players, ie the users.

GSM 3 stage design ----
The GSM 3 international symposium will wrap up 15 years of Hyperbody and show the way forward. The symposium is scheduled for 3 days, each day dedicated to one specific subject. Day 1: Next Generation Building, introduced and moderated by Kas Oosterhuis. Day 2: Robotic Building, introduced and moderated by Henriette Bier, and Day 3: Info-Matter (Interactive Architecture and Performance Driven Design), introduced and moderated by Nimish Biloria. The symposium will unfold as an interactive stage at the Orange Hall, accompanied by exhibition in the BK Gallery with 2 robots, while the BK Expo space will show the prototypes of the 6-7 groups of MSc 2 students.
Interactive stage ----
The interactive stage consist of a number of 12 NC produced components, which are representative for the possibilities of design to production attitudes of today. The elementary feature is that all components are dynamically linked to each other as to fold and unfold from open platform to closed space. We will develop the components as hybrids of high performance concrete, laminated wood, layered glass, and carbon / kevlar fabric with a variety of foams and with embedded sensors, processors and actuators. The 12 components are physically connected and can rotate along their mutual edges. The interactive stage behaves in time, responding to the lecturers, both present in real life and long distance, and responding to the input of the public. A special improvisational dance piece will be developed to show the potential of the interactive stage.

qx71ouf1yls5wxcp8mwrda123lgoei0 wikitext text/x-wiki
